Computer Engineering Technology Concentration
Objectives
The Computer Engineering Technology Concentration at MTSU will prepare graduates who:
a. Possess the knowledge, skills, and aptitudes that will allow them to enter careers in the design, analysis, and applications of computer hardware, software, and networking. b. Are capable in defining and solving technical problems, making tangible contributions, meeting new technical challenges, and be innovators in the development and implementation of computer systems. c. Are able to contribute effectively as team members, communicate proficiently, and interact responsibly with their colleagues, clients, employers, and society.
Outcomes
The CET graduate will have:
1. The ability to identify, formulate, and solve computer system-related technical problems through the design and implementation of experiments, gathering of data, and the analysis and interpretation of data. 2. The ability to apply the fundamentals of electronics and computer hardware and software and significantly contribute to his/her area of expertise. 3. The ability to specify, design, build, analyze, and validate a practical system to meet a set of desired goals within the context of a broader application. 4. A working knowledge of the hardware and software design process including an understanding of recent advances, current practices, and trends in computer systems. 5. Preparation for graduate-level and specialist studies in computer engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, or computer science by acquiring an in-depth knowledge in the topical areas of these studies. 6. The skills to effectively communicate technical materials. 7. The ability to function as a member of a team. 8. The ability to recognize the need for and be capable of engaging in lifelong learning. 9. A broad education in the humanities and social sciences in order to gain an understanding of contemporary issues, have a respect for diversity, and be able to recognize the interrelationships between technology and society. 10. The ability to understand the ethical and professional responsibilities of an engineering technology practitioner.
